The purpose of this blog is to discuss the difficulties that come with E-Learning, including online classes, distance education, and technology in the classroom. I want to identify problems and hopefully also some solutions.
Why E-Learning?
Picture One
This blog's purpose
is to discuss the benefits and issues associated with E-Learning, which
includes, online classes, distance learning, and instructional media. Because
of the overflow of new technology in educational settings, in and out of the
classroom today, E-Learning is becoming a growing controversial topic.
E-Learning, specifically online classes, have many benefits, for the students
and the school districts. One benefit being that students are able to take
classes at their own pace, and possibly make up for courses that they failed in
a classroom setting. A second benefit for students at the other end of the
spectrum is more advanced classes, and a larger variety of courses can be given
to students. This is also a benefit for the school district, with online
schools like, Virtual High School Global Consortium, schools can give students
more variety in classes, without feeling even more of a pinch on their ever
smaller budgets. With all of these positives, online classes also have negative
impacts. In my personal experience I have known many students that take
advantage of online classes, and slack off and do not keep up a good pace with
the class, only to have to cram the nights before the midterms and finals.
Also, while online classes can save school districts money, they are replacing teacher’s
jobs. With this, are we sure it is a good thing that our students are losing
the face-to-face contact and social interaction from schools? Should we be
taking away all our teachers and replacing them with computers? There are many
pros and cons to E-Learning, and I want to explore all of them in this blog.
